Host your Customers on One Instance with 3CX Multi-Tenant

Host multiple customers on one instance with 3CX Multi-Tenant PBX

V20 Update 2, expands the capability of 3CX Partners to offer 3CX SMB to their customers. It introduces a multi-company/tenant feature that allows easy hosting of multiple companies on a single 3CX license. Perfect for smaller businesses with basic to moderate communication needs, 3CX Multi-Tenant eliminates the requirement for maintaining dedicated instances for each customer/company.

Who Benefits?

Partners, MSPs and VoIP providers are able to host small customers on one 3CX instance. If you anticipate hosting 10+ tenants on the system in the long run, this solution is ideal. However, hosting just a few companies might lead to support and training challenges for both the partner and 3CX. In such cases, it’s advisable to transition those customers to 3CX SMB and have them on a dedicated instance.

What Does the Multi-Tenant Offer?

With the multi-tenant feature, 3CX allows the segregation of companies using departments, ensuring that each department is dedicated to a single company. This setup keeps the departments isolated from each other, maintaining privacy and security.

The licensing structure for 3CX multi-tenant is similar to a standard 3CX license, but with specific minimum requirements:

  • You cannot use your Not For Resale (NFR) license
  • The SIM calls licenses are distributed among the configured customers, and as your multi-tenant system grows, you can upgrade the license accordingly.
  • During the Beta version, there are no enforced licensing requirements, allowing anyone to test the multi-tenant feature with any 3CX license. In the future, a minimum license requiring 64 (or 32) SIM calls might be enforced.
  • 3CX licenses must be registered under the partner/MSP’s name, who will be considered the customer, while individual companies will not be recognized as 3CX customers. The responsibility for customer communication lies with the multi-tenant license owner, aka the partner.

SIP Trunks

3CX multi-tenant supports all types of trunks, including generic trunks. A system owner can allocate DIDs to various extensions and queues in the tenants using a single SIP trunk. However, only the system owner has this privilege. If you want tenants to configure their own SIP trunks, they need to be a 3CX supported SIP trunk that supports the “rinstance” parameter. Currently, Group owners do not have the ability to configure their SIP trunks.

How to setup 3CX Multi-Tenant

The 3CX Multi-Tenant is a perfect way for 3CX Partners to generate revenue by hosting their small customers on a single instance. It also makes management and maintenance much faster and easier as you will only have to update one system for all customers.
